State of mind...

Sometimes it may cross our mind, do we know enough about ourselves? What have we been doing in our life and which direction are we heading to? Obviously there are things that we are proud of and those that we think we would do differently if we have the opportunity to do it all over again. To know ourselves is to know who we are, our origin and purpose of life.

Why are we here in this world inthe first place? Examine the way we see the world, our paradigm, basic frame of mind. All these questions...you might wonder, why am I asking? The education process that many of us went through during our school days, in fact majority of our generation, is very similar. We were taught the same way at school. We learned many aspects of Islam - solat, puasa, zakat etc. Many scored A in Agama at SPM level.

The intent of my writing is to highlight that there are many other aspects of Islam that we should know. There are things that are very important, some to the extent of fardhu ain, interestingly enough, not taught at school. Fathi Yakan, a renowned scholar explained well on the meaning of one's affiliation to lslam in his book (What's The Meaning of My Affiliation tolslam). All of these relate back to my earlier questions - our way of looking at things. It's not only a question ofwhether our frame of mind (paradigm or whatever wewant to call it) is lslamic enough or not but also how close it is to the true Islamic teachings. How could we be driving in a strange city while holding a map of a different city?
